Ischaemic neuropathy of the lumbosacral plexus following intragluteal injection.

چکیده
A lesion of the lumbo sacral plexus may result from an inadvertent intra-arterial injection of vasotoxic drugs into one of the gluteal arteries. Symptoms and follow-up of three cases are reported. The neuropathy is attributed to a toxic endarteritis with retrograde propagation of spasm and thrombosis. Swelling an bluish discoloration of the buttocks ("embolia cutis medicamentosa") as well as an impaired circulation in the homolateral leg are associated with the neurological syndrome in fully developed cases and makes possible a correct diagnosis.

Non-diabetic lumbosacral radiculoplexus neuropathy: natural history, outcome and comparison with the diabetic variety.
Diabetic lumbosacral radiculoplexus neuropathy (DLSRPN) (other names include diabetic amyotrophy) is well recognized, unlike the non-diabetic lumbosacral radiculoplexus neuropathy (LSRPN), which has received less attention. Our objective was to characterize the natural history and outcome of LSRPN and to assess whether it is similar to the diabetic variety in its symptoms, course, electrophysio...
متن کاملInflammatory Neuropathy of the Lumbosacral Plexus following Periacetabular Osteotomy.
Introduction. During periacetabular osteotomy (PAO), the sciatic, femoral, and obturator nerves are at risk. Most frequently nerve lesions can be attributed to a mechanical cause; however, in the absence of a clear mechanical cause surgeons are faced with a diagnostic problem and in many cases no diagnosis will be established. We report a case of inflammatory neuropathy of the lumbosacral plexu...
متن کامل11 Cases of Sciatic Nerve Injury Following Intragluteal Injection of Diclofenac
Abstract Sciatic nerve which is responsible for innervation of major part of the lower limb, can be injured with various causes. One of the common sites of this nerve injury is gluteal region. This injury occurs following hip arthroplasty and other surgeries of the hip region, Fx - dislocation of the pelvis and femur, acute external compression of the nerve, intragluteal injections, and some o...
متن کاملLumbosacral plexus injury following vaginal delivery with epidural analgesia -A case report-
A 26 year old, healthy, 41 week primiparous woman received a patient-controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA) and experienced paraplegia 11 hours later after a vaginal delivery. This was thought to be the result of complications from PCEA but there was no specific abnormality on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the lumbosacral spine. On an electromyography (EMG) study performed 15 days following...
متن کاملHigh resolution neurography of the lumbosacral plexus on 3T magneteic resonance imaging.
Magnetic resonance neurography is a technique that complements clinical and electrophysiological study of the peripheral nerves and brachial and lumbosacral plexuses. Numerous focal processes (inflammatory, traumatic, primary tumors, secondary tumors) and diffuse processes (diabetic polyneuropathy, chronic idiopathic demyelinating polyneuropathy due to amyloidosis or Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease...
